Scooters are an excellent tool for getting around and are becoming increasingly popular for many adults. They are cheap to run, typically don’t require any insurance, a parking space isn’t required, and they are light enough to carry around. They are one of the most useful forms of transport for built-up areas.

As experts, we are often asked about the best scooters, and a question we have been asked a lot recently is about scooters for heavy adults. In this article, we’ll be telling you our top picks and speaking about what you need to look for when buying a scooter.

Why Are Scooters Great for Transport?

Before we start, it’s important to speak about what makes scooters such a great form of transport. Here’s why we think they are excellent.

Eco-Friendly

The first thing to mention is that they are incredibly eco-friendly. They produce much less damage to the environment compared to a car or a motorcycle. According to a study done in Paris, scooters helped reduce 330 tons of C02 within a year.

Cost Effective

Not only are scooters generally very cost effective compared to a motor vehicle, but they are also much cheaper to run. A charge can cost literally cents, and you don’t have other expenses such as parking, and general maintenance is next to nothing.

Easy to Ride

Scooters are very easy to ride and actually extremely fun. Some even come with suspension, lighting, and even applications. They are easy to control, and literally, you can learn to ride a scooter in minutes. Scooter racing has even become a sport in recent years too.

Traffic Isn’t an Issue

Scooters generally don’t use the road so you will find traffic is never an issue. You can get the commute done much faster in rush hour on a scooter because there’s typically nothing in your way.

How Do Scooters for Adults Differ From Children’s Scooters?

As you can imagine, scooters for adults are very different from children. Here are the differences you will find when putting a children’s scooter next to an adult’s scooter.

Larger and More Adaptable

The first thing to mention is that a scooter for an adult is going to be much larger. You will find the footplate to be bigger, the handlebars to go higher, and even the wheels to be larger. Adults’ scooters will have adjustments too. You will be able to lower and heighten the handlebars, and if you have a seat that will also be adjustable.

Performance

The next thing to speak about is performance. Scooters for adults have much bigger motors and larger batteries. They will have much higher top speeds and be able to go much further. You will also get disc brakes to stop faster and LCD displays to tell you how fast you’re going.

Weight

Adult scooters, because of their size, are much heavier. They are also made to be much stronger and need much more hard-wearing materials to cope with heavier riders. Also the larger motors and batteries add weight too.

Quality and Cost

Adult scooters are generally much higher quality. They are made from better materials and have much better components. This does reflect in the cost but you are getting a much better scooter overall.

The dual 1500w motors are incredibly powerful, and they have the ability to take you about 60mph. We only recommend going high speeds on private land as Kaabo clearly states. It also has a huge battery that can take you over 100 miles on a single 19h charge. The Wolf King has a large weight limit of 330 lbs, and the scooter does weigh 105 lbs, so it’s not the lightest, but it has the grunt to back itself up.

  • Folding ability and Kickstand
  • Looks great
  • Wide handlebars

CONS

  • Not the high capacity at 270lbs
  • No lighting

The Zero 10X is a strong candidate to be the best electric scooter on this list. The first thing to mention is the design. The upswept wide handlebars and the large platform makes this one of the best handling scooters available. We love that the cables run down into the handlebars and think the scooter looks fantastic.

It’s a powerful scooter with 1000w dual motors. These motors can produce further power and peak at 2000w, giving you a serious boost in the scooter’s turbo mode. It will give you a solid 40mph top speed and will take you 50 miles in range on a single charge. If that is not enough, it can be upgraded to a larger battery for longer distances.

The scooter weighs 77 lbs and can carry up to 270 lbs, which is ok. The scooter comes with dual suspension and is excellent when it comes to off-road riding, especially with the large handlebars. It comes with a small kickstand to ensure you don’t need to leave it against the wall, and it even comes with an excellent folding system.

CONS

  • Not the most powerful

If you find some scooters too heavy and are looking for something lightweight, then the EMOVE Touring is an ideal solution. With a large 5” platform and a sleek, compact design, it is great for traveling and if you have a small apartment and are limited on space.

The motor is 500w, and it is the least powerful on this list. It has a maximum speed of 20mph which is ok but not as much as others on this list. It has a maximum range of about 18 miles, so you must ensure that your commute or destination isn’t further without a charge point.

The scooter has a huge weight limit of 310lbs, which on a scooter so compact is ideal. What makes this scooter so special is the fact it is incredibly lightweight. Coming in at only 40 lbs, it is much less than half the weight of all the other scooters on this list. The scooter also comes with suspension on the front, the ability to fold, and also a kickstand.

When it comes to electric scooters, Hilboy is a huge brand, and the Titan PRO is a great example of a scooter that comes with their high-quality standard and excellent features. It has a sporty design with smooth red detailing.

The motors on this bike are in each wheel hub and combined bring in a power of 2400w. The Hilboy might not have the highest top speed or range, but it has a lot of torque for heavy riders and getting you up a hill. The range on this scooter is 40 miles, and it doesn’t have the largest battery but enough to run a long commute or day out.

It comes with disc brakes which are going to give you great stopping power no matter rain or shine. It also has a light suspension system on the front to take the edge off the road. The Hilboy Titan PRO has a weight limit of 286 lbs which is ok. What we really like about this scooter is that for all the power and range it has, it only weighs a total of 61 lbs, making this a nice light scooter.

When it comes to buying your own electric scooter, there’s a lot you need to take into consideration and think about. We have included this guide, so you know the questions you need to ask yourself.

What’s the Budget?

The first question you need to ask yourself is how much do you want to spend on an electric scooter. There’s no doubt in saying the more you spend, the better scooter you will get. It will last longer and give you a much better experience. We recommend planning a budget and getting the best scooter you can for the money.

Will It Work for You?

The second thing you are going to need to think about is if the scooter is going to work for you. Take a look at the maximum weight and also the height restrictions to ensure that you don’t get any nasty surprises when it turns up.

Will It Do What You Need It To?

It’s important to think about what you’re buying the scooter for. If you are planning on commuting, then it’s important you will have enough range to get to work and back. If you want a scooter for off-road trails and to have fun, it must have good suspension. If you want long days out, you will need a scooter with a decent range.

Is It Ok to Ride on the Streets?

When it comes to scooters, generally, there are very few rules and regulations on where and when you can ride them, provided they are ridden under 25mph. Knowing some of these bikes can do up to 60 miles per hour, it is vital to ensure you’re not going too quickly and won’t get into any trouble. Checking the rules for your area online will ensure you are safe to ride.

Do You Need Lights?

Although in summer, most places get a lot of light throughout the day, you generally get much less in winter. We highly recommend if you use a scooter even during the night to consider getting one with lights. It helps you stay safe by being seen and also ensures you can see where you’re going.
